MEET OUR HORSES
  • Name: Bellatrix, but goes by her nickname Bell
  • Date of Birth: April 23, 1998
  • Sponsor: Sponsor ME!
  • Owner: PALS
  • Donor: Dave Brown
  • This lovely Clydesdale/Thoroughbred mare stands tall above all the other PALS horses measuring in at 16.2 hands! With her graceful long legs and fearless attitude, she is named after one of the biggest and brightest stars in the night sky, Bellatrix. Bellatrix is also known as "The Amazon Star". Bell began her career by working for the Indianapolis Police Department and patrolling downtown Indy. Nothing rattles this big, brave mare; well, nothing except small baby cows and the occasional pig. She just can't seem to figure them out! After her days of fighting crime, Bell turned in her badge and became a cherished family horse who literally taught her human companion how to ride. She has always had infinite patience as well as a very forgiving nature. Bell and her human companion competed in small barn shows, did some dressage and jumping, but mostly did lots of trail riding. Bell has traveled trails all over Indiana and beyond. Bell loves to hang out in the pasture and munch on hay all day with her girlfriends. Her other favorite activity is getting treats from her friends and riders. She sees humans as "walking Pez dispensers". We know this amazing horse is going to be the biggest and brightest star at PALS for many years to come!
  • Name: Cody
  • Date of Birth: October 31, 1990
  • Sponsor: Sponsor ME!
  • Owner: PALS
  • Donor: Fern Bonchek
  • This beautiful sorrel and white paint is a flashy member of the PALS barn. Cody has a sweet temperament and playful disposition and is always ready to go! He is full of energy and thrives on the attention he receives from his riders and volunteers. Cody loves to bring smiles to the faces of his riders as he carries them around the arena at a trot.
  • Name: JBarL Blondy Dude, but goes by his nickname “Czar”
  • Date of Birth: March 25, 1989
  • Sponsor: Sponsor ME!
  • Owner: PALS
  • Donor: The Malm Family
  • This gorgeous tobiano paint gelding, named Czar, certainly lives up to his name – which means “king like”. Czar comes to the PALS barn after having a great show and pleasure career with the family that donated him. If you can think of an equestrian sport, it is likely that Czar has participated in it. He excelled in all phases of English and Western riding. Just to name a few: cow cutting, dressage, jumping, pleasure riding and some contesting. He and his young rider even brought home a 5 foot trophy! Czar was also a wonderful teacher to a family of beginning riders and continued to “babysit” the new horses as the family progressed. Czar is described as a very special horse with great intelligence and pride; along with always having a never ending love for his caretakers and riders. You will see the sparkle in his eye as he carries around all of his friends at PALS.
  • Name: Fred
  • Date of Birth: September, 07 1995
  • Sponsor: Sponsor ME!
  • Owner/Lender: Jenny and Jacki Moore
  • Born in 1995, Fred has recently become the newest addition to the PALS herd! A 15.3h quarter horse/thoroughbred cross gelding, his past occupation as a 4-H competition horse and personal trail horse make him a great addition to the program. Fred’s owners, Jenny and Jacki, knew his temperament and disposition would make him a perfect fit, and we couldn’t agree more! So don’t forget to stop in and meet him…we have a feeling you’ll love him just as much as we do!
  • Name: Lola
  • Date of Birth: February, 14 2004
  • Sponsor: Sponsor ME!
  • Owner: PALS
  • Donor: Lowell Drake
  • Lola is a 14.2 hand Haflinger. She is a curious little girl who loves to make new friends. Nothing makes her happier than a pat and some peppermint candies. Lola adores all kinds of attention and loves to have her beautiful mane brushed. Her flashy gaits and spunky personality have already made her a favorite around the barn.
  • Name: Splashvan Heart, but goes by her nickname “Splash”
  • Date of Birth: April 20, 2001
  • Sponsor: Sponsor ME!
  • Owner: PALS
  • Donor: Rachel Hix
  • This sweet, gray mare sure has made a “Splash” in the PALS barn! Splash began her therapy career after being a cherished family pet that was used for pleasure and trail riding. She has a very laid back attitude, and could probably be considered a little on the “lazy” side. However, this makes her a perfect PALS horse!! She likes to make her own decisions and set the pace. At a very stout 15 hands, Splash is a great size for adult riders or those riders who need a little extra “stretch” when they ride. When not working, Splash loves to hang out with her lady friends in the pasture and munch on hay all day.
  • Name: Veloz
  • Date of Birth: March 17, 1986
  • Sponsor: Indiana Quarter Horse Association (IQHA)
  • Owner: PALS
  • Donor: Chris & Nanci Riehl
  • Veloz is a 15 hand, Quarter Horse, gelding. He has been described by his previous family as a “good ol’ boy” from Kentucky. He is a veteran in every way possible. Veloz spent his younger years “breaking his family of children in” by letting them do everything from jumping onto his back from the hay loft – to taking him on the basketball court. Veloz has also been a horse of many different colors through his years. He started life as a dark charcoal gray horse with a stripe and socks, then turned white, and is now a flea bitten gray! Veloz has a great forward gait which earned him his name. Veloz means “swift”. When he is not having fun with his riders in the barn; Veloz enjoys to lovingly gaze at his true love, and stable mate, Lola.
  • Name: Bodacious Martini, but goes by his nickname "Walter"
  • Date of Birth: June 16, 2005
  • Sponsor: The EQUUS Foundation
  • Owner: PALS
  • Donor: Mitsi Bennett
  • Walter, a gorgeous bay with four white legs, is a registered Quarter Horse. Tall and leggy, this giant gentleman craves attention. Walter comes to PALS as a youngster, with an incredibly smooth trot and an invigorating yet gentle walk. Due to his easy-going personality, PALS instructors have termed him to be "an old man trapped in a young man's body." Peppermints are his favorite treat, but be sure to share them with his mother, Cookie, another fun and fabulous PALS horse!

Special thank you to Marycarole Matlock & Family for supporting Walter’s care.
